I like all things brainy…
love reading books which is not just entertaining but imparts knowledge too.

This book is a plethora of information and is enlightening with so much depth and details.
Apart from the story it is the details that deserves appreciation be it about the epics, the many mantras or the in depth characterisation of the various protagonist to name a few.

One of the things I liked and admired the most is the way women are portrayed in both the books Harappa and pralay be it the ferocious warriors Tara and Naina or the calm and serene Sanjna. They are equal to powerful male characters vidyut and vivaswan pujari.

Another nuance in the book which was admirable was the way the characters were named like the three monsters who violate the waters of Harappa ..Ap , Sha and gun meaning Ap – Sha – Gun and the story the author had come up with behind the naming of ‘Asuras’ it was uniquely convincingly amusing though I suppose it wasn’t the true story behind it. I truly love when so much thought has been put into something as small as names, it made up for a good story inside a story.

my patience was truly being tested bcoz just when i thought the secret of black temple was about to reveal , it kept delaying .. at the end it’s going to be in the next sequel.. i understood how vidyut was feeling..very much!! 😛
I struggled to make sense of the saptarishi’s burning part and the curses that follows.

There were a few things that was like a bumper in an otherwise flowy plot ,the part where Constantine and the new world order comes into picture was detailed a bit too much that it abruptly paused the flow now and then ,though I have shamelessly bookmarked the pages where Mahabharata and Ramayana is dissected by Vidyut and Dwarka Shastri , reading it has inspired and spiked my interest in the epics multifold that I am already reading Ramayana by rajagopalachari which was otherwise lying respectfully in my bookshelf all these years…I agree I seriously didn’t know the fact that there were common characters in Ramayana and Mahabharata when both happened thousands of years apart , apparently my ‘ epics’ knowledge is epically nil. The discoveries our ancient sages and epics made, way before the scientific world even found it gave me an indianness proudy feeling, yes I knew few of them already but it does gives a good feeling whenever it’s discussed and mentioned anywhere. I liked Dwarka Shastri uncanny resemblance and similarity to Dumbledore it made me relive my harry potter moments.

Final verdict :

i just gained few more grey cells.😁

It’s a brainy fiction mythology… gulp it down !!

Love-O-Meter : 4.3 🌟

  1. From end to end of this story, author do not mention any where the source of his writings. Not clear it’s a true story from puranas or other ancient texts. Sad is that recently many authors are writing imaginary stories using real characters from hindu texts.

    • Hi shreenath..sorry for my LATE reply!.. Its been a while since I read this book hence I don’t remember much of it, but its not a true story rather a fictional work i think it has been mentioned by the author in the beginning otherwise it wouldn’t have been published. As for them drawing resemblance to real characters from our mythological texts, I am sorry that you didn’t quite like it. I respect your opinion but I can’t comment on it. Thanks
