I wish i had a brother like Vishnu. what’s safer than having a brother like him beside you,
The instance where he saved his sister gave me goosebumps.

The character of vishnu gupta is inspired by chanakya, a mere seven year old little pundit with a little choti on his bald head astonishes everyone in pataliputra with his wisdom, confidence and his exceptional brain. He is genius no less. The character is astounding.

The Maha-amatya or the prime minister of pataliputra is the one who rules the kingdom actually, the emperor is just a puppet in his hands though he is not aware about it. The kingdom is full of malice and injustice thats when vishnu and his family enter the city for some conference that his scholar father is attending, travelling all the way from their serene and calm hometown Chanak.

Young Vishnu doesn’t fight or confronts or protests maha-atmya’s anyas or injustice directly. He plays him just like he does..using POLITICS!!
he nullifies his bad doings, counteracts his bad politics with good politics..intelligent one.

The author through this book introduces us to our ancient politics. The cold war between young Vishnu’s wisdom and maha-amatya’s shrewdness is what the story is all about.

The narration is so real that you can see and feel everything including the violent scenes, it was too gory for me. i loved the description of vishnu’s village life, the sudden entry of a tigress in a particular scene was left unexplained i am thinking maybe the sequel has something in store. There were two instances where chandra’s past was contradicting.

The first half raised my expectations many notches high but it didn’t stay that way throughout.
Being based on chanakya and his wisdom, there were indeed few wow moment’s but i was expecting more such brilliant brainy intelligent stuffs.
i am not entirely convinced with the argument that chanakya presents in the final chapters of the book to help someone, again, maybe the sequel can explain it more well.

I was disappointed when the story ended at cliffhanger as i was getting too engrossed by then and was looking forward to it. i am intrigued and very keen on knowing what comes next and how vishnu handles it.

I was bewitched with the interpretation of valmiki rishi’s writing, i love to see and read such depth and a different perspective to something that i already knew but was unaware. That part stays in my mind forever.

This is one genre which has a wide range of readers. Mythological stories always teaches you something, there is always something you can learn from it. Look out for that something while you enjoy this book.

I like all things brainy…
love reading books which is not just entertaining but imparts knowledge too.

This book is a plethora of information and is enlightening with so much depth and details.
Apart from the story it is the details that deserves appreciation be it about the epics, the many mantras or the in depth characterisation of the various protagonist to name a few.

One of the things I liked and admired the most is the way women are portrayed in both the books Harappa and pralay be it the ferocious warriors Tara and Naina or the calm and serene Sanjna. They are equal to powerful male characters vidyut and vivaswan pujari.

Another nuance in the book which was admirable was the way the characters were named like the three monsters who violate the waters of Harappa ..Ap , Sha and gun meaning Ap – Sha – Gun and the story the author had come up with behind the naming of ‘Asuras’ it was uniquely convincingly amusing though I suppose it wasn’t the true story behind it. I truly love when so much thought has been put into something as small as names, it made up for a good story inside a story.

my patience was truly being tested bcoz just when i thought the secret of black temple was about to reveal , it kept delaying .. at the end it’s going to be in the next sequel.. i understood how vidyut was feeling..very much!! 😛
I struggled to make sense of the saptarishi’s burning part and the curses that follows.

There were a few things that was like a bumper in an otherwise flowy plot ,the part where Constantine and the new world order comes into picture was detailed a bit too much that it abruptly paused the flow now and then ,though I have shamelessly bookmarked the pages where Mahabharata and Ramayana is dissected by Vidyut and Dwarka Shastri , reading it has inspired and spiked my interest in the epics multifold that I am already reading Ramayana by rajagopalachari which was otherwise lying respectfully in my bookshelf all these years…I agree I seriously didn’t know the fact that there were common characters in Ramayana and Mahabharata when both happened thousands of years apart , apparently my ‘ epics’ knowledge is epically nil. The discoveries our ancient sages and epics made, way before the scientific world even found it gave me an indianness proudy feeling, yes I knew few of them already but it does gives a good feeling whenever it’s discussed and mentioned anywhere. I liked Dwarka Shastri uncanny resemblance and similarity to Dumbledore it made me relive my harry potter moments.

Final verdict :

i just gained few more grey cells.😁

It’s a brainy fiction mythology… gulp it down !!

“I got the book as a part of the review program in Outset

A very colorful and bright catchy cover that goes well with the title. The titular Hope and Sunshine has much more significance and meaning in the plot which is only revealed later in the course of narration and probably the best in the book.

Its a woman centric novel where the story revolves around Naina Grover, a highly successful marketing professional and an independent woman staying alone and working in kolkatta. Her Maasi and cousin arjun are her only guardians in kolkatta while her parents remain in delhi.

The book focusses mainly on relationships and family.

The author takes us through the life of Naina right from the time she sleeps, eats, gets up and goes to work…to the time she returns home, the many accolades or appreciation she gets in workplace, the way she’s pampered by her family who are super protective towards her and everything seems good except her relationship with Ved. They love each other but issues crops up now and then. This leads to confusion, hurt, mood swings. but along all this she develops a new friendship with Aditya her HR head and her cousin Arjun’s bestie. The three of them get so close that they hang out together almost every day. Naina’s past with her family is another issue that bothers her. The story at the end is the way her relationship shapes up be it her love life, work life or family life.

Quite a lot of things were relatable like…..

I loved the friendship quotient of Naina, Arjun and Aditya, their fun get together’s made me yearn for such friendship, the sibling fights of Naina and Arjun was cute and Arjun’s protectiveness towards his sister ….to name a few.

The Character Naina can make any girl envy for all the love she gets from her family. I loved the fact that despite being from a rich family she chooses to make her own career staying alone and away from her parents.

The only drawback i found was the prose and the overtly mention of kolkatta everywhere, i skimmed read those parts as it sort of disturbed the flow and overshadowed the plot. Though the book did unravel many new facts about the city of joy.

Naina and Ved’s relationship part went on and on, it was stretching a way bit more than i expected. I didn’t quite understand the chit stuff and the events that follows it.

Its a normal story dealing with issues in a girl’s life. The narration could have been better in the first half but there were few lines in the second half that was touching.

Overall the book did stir emotions in me at times and that’s what matters.

Seeing that its a work of a debut author is great.
